Increases with pre-diabetes and type 2 diabetes diagnoses in underserved populations have been staggering. According to the CDC, among Indigenous Americans, rates of diabetes are two to five times higher than those of whites, and Mexican Americans and Puerto Ricans are twice as likely to develop the disease than non-Hispanic whites of similar age. The CDC also says that African American adults, on average, are 1.7 times more likely to develop diabetes than whites, while most children and adolescents with type 2 diabetes are people of color.1
